As with all of Italy the food and wine is local and
delicious, relying on wonderful, fresh, local ingredients.
There are many small, specialist food shops as well as good, small,
family-run alimentari (grocery shops). Vans with fresh fruit
and veg and with fresh fish come to the markets every day and there
are good local, Basilicatan wines.
The local speciality is seafood with the best seafood
restaurant in the area in our village (they also have meat for the
non-fish eaters). There are several proper pizzerias with
wood ovens in easy reach and excellent places in the old town for
mountain specialities.
The local cafes have mouth watering arrays of Italian
patisseries and home made ice creams and a local speciality is
small, very moist biscuits made with almond, walnut or pine nut
flour that you buy by the tray.
